This course provides guidance on developing strategies to address and prevent issues related to supplier protests. While doing everything possible to avoid protests, procurement professionals must uphold certain rules and standards that can occasionally lead to protests. Protests are often delicate situations that require appropriate responses and cautious actions. The burden of judgement and accountability often falls on procurement leaders. For this reason, it is imperative for procurement leaders to understand how to manage a team during a protest. Procurement leaders are responsible for ensuring that all procedures are followed during a protest and strategies are in place to prevent protests.

This course provides a framework for understanding the conditions of properly expending federal grant funds. Federal grants have specific requirements and expectations. As such, procurement professionals must be capable of understanding and meeting the unique requirements of the grantor and reconciling local rules with federal rules. Failure to follow the requirements may result in questions from audit findings and even having to repay the grant. This course covers the most predominate federal requirements. However, there are many federal grants that have unique requirements that cannot be reviewed in a general federal grants course.

Procurement of architect and engineering professional services and construction services is a niche specialty in the profession. While the public procurement principles continue to apply, some practices, methods, and laws are unique to the procurement of professional services and construction. Procuring professional design services and construction can be very challenging, as each project is unique, and often complicated. New and evolving project delivery methods like progressive design-build and construction manager at risk adds new challenges for the public procurement professional.

Procurement leaders are responsible for mitigating risks for their departments. Although every procurement professional is involved in risk management, every entity ultimately relies on its procurement leaders to protect the entity when it enters into contracts for goods and services. Mitigation of risks begins even before the procurement cycle is initiated with a process known as risk analysis.
When considering a new initiative, it can be difficult for a procurement leader to determine a starting point for risk analysis. Who is involved? How can risks be identified from various stakeholders? Will a specific procurement solve a problem, or is there another root cause? How can strategies obtained from a risk analysis be implemented?
